In the great nation of the USA everyone has the right to their own choices, and also obtains the right to have a role in our capitalist economy, whether that be a owning a convenient store, having a job in advertising, or creating a company to sell specific products or services. For example, you can get cancers and chronic diseases. Some examples of cancers caused by smoking are lung cancer, esophagus cancer, throat cancer, pancreas cancer, colon cancer, and many more. A few of many examples of chronic diseases smoking causes are strokes, cataracts, diabetes, lowered immune health, Rheumatoid arthritis, ect (“Health Effects”). These diseases and others make the statement “Cigarette smoking causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. This is nearly one in five deaths” to be a very realistic and horrifying statistic (“Health Effects”). Taking all these facts into consideration, people will still argue that smoking is not that harmful. For example, one statistic that is used to say that the health effects are exaggerated is that “the actual odds of a smoker dying from smoking before the age of 75 are about 1 in 12” (“Tobacco Marketing Influences”). Well, this may be true, but so are the statistics about the number of health issues it can cause and the number of deaths it can cause. Keeping this in mind, the study of the anatomy of the body, genetics of humans, and what factors are at play when deaths do occur was created to extend the lifespan of the people without these scientific advancements had. With that being said, second-hand smoke has been proven awful for the health of those that do not smoke as well as those that do, and because this is true there have been a number of bans on smoking in a variety of places within the US. Some examples of places where these bans have been set in place are any means of public travel (planes, buses, trains, etc.) , indoor seating at restaurants, most business buildings, and most anywhere people can not smoke while working. This creates and leads variety of issues for the smoker. For one, because they are not aloud to smoke while they work some employers prefer not to hire people that smokers to get rid of the issues a smoker may have with needing to be able to go outside and smoke.
