Without school uniforms, enforcement of of a dress code is difficult and a burden on school staff. By dressing professionally, students receive more respect from teachers and peers alike. Students who wear uniforms are also more prepared for the rigors of various dress codes in adult life after their school years. School uniforms are no longer reserved for just private and parochial schools in the United States. In recent years, urban schools have proved that school uniforms have far reaching benefits. Suburban schools have generally not adopted these polices citing a variety of reasons, but the evidence contradicts these arguments and makes a solid case that suburban schools can benefit just the same. Uniforms provide a professional learning environment enabling students to focus first on education. Reducing the visual identifiers of varying socioeconomic circumstances promotes a reduction in clique mentality, reduces stereotyping that can lead to discrimination, and uniforms create a sense of belonging and school spirit.
