The type of religious tradition I chose to attend was that of Islam. The religious sect of Islam is the Sunni tradition. The name of the place of worship I attended was the Assalam Mosque located at 2335 St. Laurent Blvd. I attended the Friday prayer on September 26, 2014 at 12:45 pm until 1:15 pm.
Building:
The outside of the mosque is square shaped with white bricks all around. At the front of the mosque there is a square entrance with two huge glass doors in the middle. On the top of entrance there is an image which states لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله (La Ilaha IllAllah Muhammadur Rasulullah). The sermon that I attended was on the value of your parents. The Sunni traditional believe that “that paradise is under the mother’s feet”. This means that the respect that a mother has over a father is “three times more” which is written in the Holy Quran. The Imam also stated that those who disrespect the mother’s will not be successful in this life (Dunya) and the next (Akhirah). Furthermore he stressed that those who pray and recite the Holy Quran but disrespect their mothers they will not succeed either. The Imam also stated that in the Holy Quran there is belief which “that after Allah and his messenger are mothers fall in place that how much of value they are.” He used an example of a man that tried to pay his mother back. The man did not know which way to approach this, so he carried his mother on his back and performed the Muslim pilgrimage (Hajj) 7 times. Even in that instance he still did not pay back his mother for all the work and effort she put in him. The lecture was the first sermon while the second was the supplication (Dua).
