Consider this set of statements as and example of inductive reasoning; Today, I left for work at eight o’clock and I arrived on time. Therefore, every day that I leave at eight o’clock, I will arrive to work on time. Although we tend to use inductive reasoning a lot, we must cautious because it may not always be appropriate to generalise every statement or event. For example in the statements above, ‘today’ could have been a weekend or a less busy day and if you were to go to work say on a Friday morning there would be a lot of traffic, which would mean taking a longer time to reach work and, as some famous critics have put it. An example of deductive reasoning is: Everyman man is mortal and Jimmy in a man. Therefore Jimmy is mortal. This statement now follows a logical format and one can see the reasoning behind the statement. The use of reason varies between different WOKs as reason may be more important and used more often in mathematics and the natural sciences than in the arts. In this essay, I will explore the use of reason and other WOK in mathematics and the natural sciences as well as in the …show more content…
Art is centred around alternative WOK such as emotion and intuition. However, the fact that art doesn't correlate reasoning can be falsified. The arts are split into two main categories; performing art and visual art. The aesthetic appeal of an art piece is depicted to have the intention of the artist, the quality of the work and the response of the audience. In the arts, artists can use language, emotion and also reasoning to express them selves. In visual arts For example, the artist employs the use of color in the art as well as the context of their art to help create emotion. This also forces the audience to use their perception in order to better under stand the art work and the state of mind that the artist was in when s/he was producing the art. The use of reasoning is more profound in the performing art section. Artists may chose to use reasoning in order to convey a social message or to call for social reform. Examples include Michael Jackson who sang songs about color and creed. Moreover, scientists, with a profound sense of reasoning, have been able employ concepts in the arts such as the golden ratio.
