These birds are second only to African Grey parrots which is considered by many as the best talker among parrots. It must be understood though that not all Yellow Headed Amazons can talk. The ability to talk depends on the individual birds. Yellow Headed Amazons are extremely social and are very intelligent, active and funny. They are attention grabbers and like to play with human beings. Many believe that these species of parrots are the loudest in the whole world. They tend to screech a lot but like other species of parrots, their screeching can be changed to talking through proper training. Being an active bird, Yellow Headed Amazons are not suited in environments where they will not be able to fly around. It is best therefore to place these kind of birds in a spacious aviary. The twenty-ninth chapter of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is used to describe Clidell and all his friends to the reader. Angelou describes how Clidell’s friends told her about all the cons and tricks they have used on wealthy white men in their lives. I think of a lot of these tricks as cruel and wrong, but I assume that these men thought they were justified. Using the contrast of showing and telling, Butler juxtaposes the simplicity of his human life with the ironic complexity of the narrator’s parrot life to demonstrate the character’s increased self-understanding/awareness and maturation as he comes to terms with his jealousy and progresses beyond…
