Personality is defined as a set of characteristics within an individual influencing his cognition and behaviors in a different context (Hussain, Abbas, Shahzad and Bukhari, 2011; http://career.iresearchnet.com/career-assessment/personality-and-careers/). It plays an important role in the choosing of the right career. How students have seen themselves in a role in which personality is a determining factor may influence a chosen career. Some careers demand that you have the personality to match the qualities of the occupation. (Splaver as cited in Olamide & Olawaiye, 2013). There are many dimensions of personality that have been linked to career development. Almost every element of a person’s career is in part determined by his or her personality.

Holland which constitutes of six basic personality types that provide the possibility of 720 different personality patterns. Likewise, RIASEC model postulates that people project self- and world-of-work views onto occupational titles and make career decisions that satisfy their preferred personal orientations; seek environments that are aligned with their personality types and engage in activities that utilize their abilities (Holand as cited in Japitan., et al., 2015; Kemboi, Kindiki & Misigo, 2016). Kemboi, Kindiki & Misigo (2016) study on the relationship between personality types and career choices of undergraduate students in Moi University found out that student’s personality types significantly influence the students’ career choice. When a teen sees his family contented and successful due in part to the career choices of his parents, he will be motivated to follow the paths of his parents. Like for instance, a father that is a police officer who provides well for his family, and whose teenager observes his father making a difference in the community, may want to become a police officer as well. Asante (2010) was of the view that determinants of career preference and decision-making of technical education students in Accra, was that 62% of students who choose technical education and select a career in that field have family influence being the major factor that influences their decision and choice.
