To a large extent the instructors placed the abilities and resources in the students’ hands and allowed them to discern the significance themselves. My own research gave me the view that presidential elections were not important do the electoral college and the popular votes, and even more so in regards to state trends; though Nevada is considered a swing state, I still felt that presidential elections were not an adequate way in which people should vote. Rather, I believed in understanding and giving greater importance to state and local elections in which the individual is largely effected. High school education is centered around the function of the government and not on why or in what ways social issues influence the government itself. Media, family, educational career all impart with in us the views to which these issues are related. At the root, family views give us the insight to what issues are important to others. Media outlets provide ways in which we can understand the issue, but it was my experience that these outlets were not widely used. Education allows ways in which the government and its many facets work, but personally it was not until college were views and academic credibility was given to me. The roles of high school and junior high school imparted with in me the need to identify with groups over the issue themselves. For me, I can only say that the key importance to shaping my views on political issues is to gather as much information as possible; be it academic, parental, social circles or other individuals’; the need to acquire and understand the issue and all areas of it allows me to feel more positive on what stance I take and the view I feel is the best to approach
