My College Admissions Essay: My Educational Journey

When I sit in lecture, I am in awe of my surroundings. What are five hundred people doing in a room, listening to one person talk, at eight in the morning? What is this building made of? Who first decided to keep track of time? Thousands of years of human progress, in the form of a computer, sit in my lap. I press buttons and letters appear; they form words, sentences, and ideas. How can I possibly comprehend what this professor is thinking and saying? How can I think about my thinking? Everything surrounding me, and within me, is stunningly complex.
I believe these thoughts arise because my education has encouraged me to question every aspect of life. If I had not been introduced to biology, I would have never considered the concept of evolution. Without sociology, I would not have fathomed our societal conscious. Even if these thoughts had occurred to me, I would not be able to express them without learning the english language. Our system of education is layered and interconnected. I know far less than I do not know. However, joining this prestigious society would place me among a group of people that are thoughtful, questioning, and driven by their desire to grow and embrace life through diverse studies. Through my membership in Alpha Phi Omega, I have come to understand the importance of tradition in guarding the ideals we find most important. Just as I have explored the Cardinal Principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service in APO, I wish to discover the highest ideals of Phi Beta Kappa. If my interview is any indication, the members and alumni of this prestigious society can continue to guide me, affording me opportunities to reach my greatest potential.
