Looking Back To High School-Personal Narrative

Today marks the twentieth anniversary since I have graduated from high school. My husband and I have taken a trip back to my hometown, Auburn, New York, for our high school reunion. I can remember it as if it was yesterday: walking across the stage in my crisp, white gown, moving the tassel on my cap from one side to the other, feeling the greatest feeling of fulfillment mixed with gratification. A lot has changed in my life since that moment, twenty years ago, when a diploma fell within my grasp. Looking back on all the things that I have done since then, it makes me want to relive it for a second time. After graduation, I went on a road trip with my best friend, Julia. We decided to take a final trip together before we were separated …show more content…
One by one, my friends left to move in, and each time, it grew more and more bittersweet. I was one of the last of my friends to leave for school. When move in day finally arrived, we packed up all of my stuff between my parent’s car and my brand new olive green Jeep Wrangler, and took off. Although I was used to long rides, this three hours seemed to drag by. After what seemed like forever, we finally pulled into a campus that welcomed you by a huge sign with “Welcome to Bucknell University” engraved in it. I stepped out of my car, and the newly changing leaves greeted me with their crisp smell filling my nostrils. I knew that I would love my four years attending Bucknell University, and I couldn’t wait to begin this journey. My roommate had the same major has me, so we became very good friends from the start. We both decided to major in Biomedical Engineering, however, we each wanted to go into a separate field. I eventually started to join clubs and sports. I played soccer in the fall, and I was in the Horseback Riding Club, French Club, and the Ballroom Dancing Club, which was where I met my future husband. My years at college seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, it was time for yet another graduation. Putting on my cap and gown gave me a chilling feeling of deja-vu that ran down my back. Suddenly, I remembered how proud I was back when I graduated from high school, and the same recurrent feeling went surging …show more content…
We had a big, fancy, white wedding, and it was the wedding of my childhood dreams. I had a beautiful dress, with lace on the back with a skirt that poofed out. For our honeymoon, we decided to go travelling throughout Europe. We first flew to Santorini, Greece, where we spent the longest amount of time compared to everywhere else. It was the first time that I have ever been to Santorini, and the Mediterranean was extraordinary, with the turquoise waves gently foaming at my feet on the beach. We then moved into Italy, where we went to Florence, and then to Milan. From Italy, we moved onto France, where we began in Nice, and moved West towards Roquefort, and then North to Paris. France has always been one of my favorite places to go. The first time I went was in high school. I try to go someplace new every time, and this time, we decided to check out Roquefort, which is famous for their sheep’s cheese, and their wine. However, Nice has by-far always been my favorite place to go. Their fresh street markets, Mediterranean lifestyle, and lavish culture had always appealed to me. I have always been good at speaking French, and so going to the places where I can speak it is always a fun experience. From France, we travelled to the Netherlands, where we spent a few days exploring cities like Amsterdam. Then, we travelled by helicopter to Norway, which was our last destination. Here, we spent the next few days traveling

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…
