Recognizing is key to happiness, which leads to making choices that are mindful. Before taking this course, I was somewhat skeptical when I received my textbook. I was not sure I was going to connect to the material. But, after reading the entire textbook, there is a lot of useful information that I can us in my daily mindfulness practice. Such as relationships, paying more attention to those that I love and care about is important. Lately I have been so busy and distracted I tend to neglect my wife. I need to be more attentive to her as relationships are integral to being happy as well.

In what ways will the material learned in these chapters help me manage my stress more effectively? I would say mindful meditation is important. Though I get distracted easily, it is important to be in tune with yourself. In order to lower and manage my stress I will work on meditation practices. Also, the word recognize was explained in our textbook. If I start to recognize a hindrance I need to embrace it and work on resolving it in a constructive way.

In the beginning of Roberta M. Gilberts textbook Extraordinary Relationships: A New Way of Thinking About Human Interactions (1992), she argues “In the realm of the purely personal - after food, water, and shelter - the quality of relationships most often determines the quality of life” (p. 3). I believe this statement perfectly sums up how vital and necessary human relationships are for human life, and the strong impact they play on having a positive and meaningful life. There were several concepts presented throughout chapters 1 - 12. They were each of equal importance and each greatly impacts the understanding of relationships. In order to have a purposeful life and a greater understanding of relationships, there are many crucial concepts that must be understood, three of them are differentiation of self, thinking systems, and the relationship pattern of cutoff.…

As a college student with a busy lifestyle, it was common for me to just keep going and going, allowing days to fly by as if nothing had happened. Mindfulness formal practices, however, forced me to slow down, even if just for twenty minutes and focus on the here and now, which helped me to appreciate to a greater extent what was going on in my life at the current point in time. This being said, my mindfulness formal practices have not always been easy. Often times it was tough to stay focused, and because of this I would tend to judge myself for not focusing as well as I knew I was capable of. This non-judging attitude however, is a key part of mindfulness.…
