Romeo and Juliet. One message that is obvious is that love controls everything. It makes people do things they
would never think of doing; it controls them. It is something that people often seek and wish which brings us to
the two people that the play is about: Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is a hopeless romantic who,at the beginning of
the play, is in love with another girl. Juliet on the other hand is reserved and naive. They fall in love and love

Mercutio would have never
gotten killed by Tybalt and Romeo would have never killed Tybalt. An example of this would be when the play
starts. It is clear to the audience that the play will involve deaths and there is hatred between the two families.
What is not said is that hatred will control the people causing them to do those actions.
The message is greatly embodied by Mercutio. He is the complete opposite of Romeo, his best friend,and
mocks love while Romeo appeases it and seeks it. Mercutio is seen as a realist as he sees past all the dreamy
parts of love and knows it isn’t something that should be so fought after. He simply doesn’t believe in love.
Shakespeare's philosophy is that love is not what it seems to be. Many believe it to be something out of a
fairytale when in reality it is not and Mercutio knows this. He also follows the less-obvious message. He follows
it because at the time of his death he does not blame fate like how everyone else does but blames the hatred
the two houses had for each other. He was neither a Capulet nor a Montague but a third party who happened
