When considering inventory management and social media, we need to be certain that all necessary information has been compiled and is available. The information that a company needs is basic. First, the company needs to make sure that everyone who must be involved is on board as far as communication. There is certainly sufficient information with just social media systems to work on management. For example, using Dropbox the inventory manager can send reports to management for planning purposes. Or, the president of the company can use Skype to have a meeting with a few different departments all located in different time zones. Using Twitter with a company hashtag information is distributed quickly.

Social media allows you to give your suppliers greater autonomy. Having a transparent supply chain and trusted suppliers is important for many companies, especially global companies. Using social media for real time collaboration can improve the supply chain and allow instant feedback on issues. Enabling suppliers to communicate with the warehouse via live chat or Skype will permit much faster solving of problems. There are a number of ways a company can encourage its employees, suppliers and customers to use social media when dealing with inventory. Making it easier for employees to contact other departments or parts of the warehouse will let them know that the company is behind them. The company must embrace the realization that social networking is not about talking with friends anymore, it’s about collaboration and getting information to a co-worker instantly.
