For examples, interest groups are spending more on election. The following quote is from a newspaper article that discusses the role of interest group in an election. “Interest groups are spending five times as much on the 2010 congressional elections as they did on the last midterms, and they are more secretive than ever about where the money is coming from” (Dan Eggen). It goes on explaining that the spending are conducted in the shadows. Also, that these interest groups, by law, are not allow to talk to their candidates about the strategy their group have. Another way one can influence an election is with political action committees (PACs), which is private organization. “They serve as support organizations for these politicians, raising funds for individual campaigns, creating television ads, and publicizing one side of a given issue” (Dobbs). This interest group is a professional association. “Founded in 1847, the AMA was incorporated in 1897 and is tasked with the mission of promoting the “art and science of medicine for the betterment of public health, to advance the interests of physicians and their patients, to promote public health, to lobby for legislation favorable to physicians and patients, and to raise money for medical education” (Rawls). All of these are ways that AMA has contribute to a healthy democracy. I chose AMA because today a lot of students are proceeding to medical school, even me. Medical school is not an affordable option if one doesn’t have the money. If AMA is able to raise money for medical education, then students may be able to continue their education route. “The Association is reported to give approximately $1 million annually in tuition assistance to financially constrained medical students”
