For example, people often respond to change with rejection based on a misunderstanding. This is where the presence of an identity center 's come into play. As previously mentioned, identity centers allow for a deeper understanding of one 's background. They also proved a safe space to discuss these issues openly. Beck represented the perfect schooling set up to become a dropout. Students who experience bullying are more likely to drop out than those not challenged (Cornell 2012). Not only did Beck face discrimination from his peers, but also his teachers. Perhaps if these practices, found in identity centers, were at Beck 's high school he would have experienced much more empathy about what he experienced rather than being constantly faced with discrimination and judgment. This will be especially important because by the year 2020 the minority races will total half of the counties population (Moore 2010). They have already faced tremendous social exclusion, and the identity centers should assist in joining all the minorities together. It will do this by providing an area to discuss hard topics but still feel like a safe space environment.
