The Importance Of Honor To The Late Great Katherine Hepburn

Decent Essays
Nothing can be a higher honor then being nominated for, and winning an Oscar. Surprisingly, the individual who managed to bring home the most Oscar wins wasn’t an Actor or Actress, but the legendary Walt Disney, whose short films brought him an incredible 26 Oscar wins and 59 nominations between 1932 and 1969. When it comes to Acting nominations, no actor or actress has brought in more nominations then the Meryl Steep, who has amassed an incredible 20 Oscar nominations over the years, most recently for 2016’s Florence Foster Jenkins. However, Streep does not have the record for most wins. That honor goes to the late great Katherine Hepburn who managed to win 4 Best Actress Oscars between 1932 and 1981. Hepburn is the only actor or actress

During specific situations, people often are conflicted whether to act according to the community or on the behalf of themselves. The majority often follows the group’s desires in order to avoid backlash or punishment. This was evident during the Salem Witch Trials when innocent people, accused of witchcraft, lied to avoid death. However, in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, when John Proctor is put on trial, his refusal to “confess” to witchcraft reflects his character transformation from prideful to humbled. Through the character of John Proctor and his trial, Miller reveals the importance of self-honor and embracing oneself, marking the first step toward ending the mass hysteria of witchcraft.…

In "The Giver", by Lois Lowry I think that the job of the reciever of memories is honorable and does not have power. For example, the reciever of memories (the giver) has already tried before to change something in the community, but he cannot because the Elders don't really listen to him. Then he learns that the job doesn't really have any power to change anything in the community. Furthermore, the difference between power and honor is that when you have power you can change things while with honor you just get respect by people and you cannot necessarily change anything.…

The notion of “honor” is the primary thesis for Wyatt-Brown’s (1986) argument that southern plantation culture was dominated by a patriarchal system of behaviors defined through family and sexual conduct. Wyatt-Brown actually presents the causation for southern behaviors through the patriarchal machismo of southern society by examining how male genitalia defines the symbolic power of “honor” as a foundation for slavery and a white-male-dominant culture. More so, Wyatt-Brown (1986) argues that women were taught to be experts…
