In society, hair health is a big deal. How well hair looks and flows all depends on how healthy your hair is. Whether you have short, long, frizzy, flat, thick, thin, processed, or virgin hair keeping your hair healthy is a necessity. It is possible for hair to remain healthy. Not only that, the fear of having damaged hair via chemical process is a pure motivation to improve current hair health. Also, by understanding that everyone’s hair is different and that not everything works on everyone’s hair is important as well. This may not be an issue for the everyday American’s but, there are a large number of people who do process their hair and who has experienced some damage. Such damage can range from combing and brushing your hair to heat manipulation and processing. Sinclair then explains how the cortex consists of closely packed spindle-shaped cells that contain keratin filaments that are positioned parallel to the longitudinal axis of the hair shaft (Sinclair). The keratin filaments found in hair are the main protein structures that minimizes dryness and damage. With the combining forces of the outer hydrophobic layer and the cortex that make up the physical properties of shine and volume, you achieve what is essential for healthy hair (Sinclair). Knowing the properties that build the foundation of healthy hair is vital when it comes to maintaining current hair health and improving hair health. It is apparent that there is no way of avoiding damage to the cuticle of the hair, but there are ways to minimize that damage. Although, it is almost impossible to not brush or comb your hair and keep it looking decent in order to save your hair cuticles from damage; what is on the inside of the hair follicle is the key to hair health. So no matter what is done to alter the hair itself, inside is what makes all the difference.
