Some research suggests that the roots of phonemic awareness, a powerful predictor of later reading success, are found in traditional rhyming, skipping, and word games (Bryant et al. 1990). The principle of learning is that “children are active learners, drawing on direct social and physical experience as well as culturally transmitted knowledge to construct their own understandings of the world around them” (Bredekamp &Copple 1997). Using Game Based Learning to teach phonemic awareness can help students to read.

Definition of key terms
To facilitate the understanding of this study, the following terms are defined below. Those words will be used throughout the research to highlight the different reading terms. The definitions will allow the reader to have a clear understanding of the use of each term.
Game-Based Learning: Game-based learning according to Trybus (2015) refers to the borrowing of certain gaming principles and applying them to real-life settings to engage users.
Game: According to Salen & Zimmerman (2003) is a system in which players engage in an artificial conflict, defined by rules that result in a quantifiable outcome.
Learning: This is the activity or process of gaining knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught, or experiencing something. It is the activity of someone who learns (Merriam-Webster).
Improve: According to Dictionary.com “Improve” is to bring into a more desirable or excellent
