Flexible Leadership Theory in Literature
1. In the paper “The Importance of Flexible Leadership” [1], the author performed a review of a subset of literatures in Management and Leadership. His research suggested that flexible, adaptive leadership is fundamental for all managers. In this review, he (i) compared the different types of managers at various levels of ranking and their nature of adaptability to various situations, (ii) examined how the same manager adapts to different situations in the same organization, (iii) analysed how managers react and address unsolicited events, external changes, threats or even opportunities and its implications, (iv) researched on changing priorities and objectives involving compromises and negotiations,

In the paper “Flexible Leadership – Self Knowledge, Guiding Principles and Flexible Approaches” [3], the author performed a review of the previous literatures and concluded that there are three main traits or behaviours which can drive a leader to success. Firstly, a flexible leader should be self-aware of their own strengths and weaknesses in terms of skills, experience and knowledge. Secondly, leaders should have their own principles which will guide them in terms of the approaches that they would take at various situations and it will define what kind of leaders they are and how they would like to function as leaders. It will not only keep them grounded, but also steers them and their followers to success. In the paper “Why flexible and adaptive leadership is essential?” [5], authors used seven streams of theory and research, and explained the concepts and its implications on the effective leadership within an organization. Through this study they analysed the significance of flexible and adaptive leadership in current organizations, the need for mental model that aids in understanding the complexity of situations, and the importance of self-awareness of personal traits, skills and behaviours to approach various situations and to balance competing values.
