The World health organisation (2015) acknowledges that showing no dignity and respect is also a form of abuse and also Failure to protect an assault means it is a failure to maintain person’s dignity and respect. Older people often find that they are being mistreated by other people. And anything that is causing harm or distress to an older person is elder abuse. There are many kinds of abuse like it can be physical, sexual, psychological, financial, emotional, neglect and also loss of respect and dignity (WHO, 2015).
I work in an aged care facility. While looking after those old and vulnerable people I never come across any kind of physical or sexual or other kinds of abuse.

Treating them with dignity and respect is also a form of avoiding elder abuse. Additionally, older people have right to make their decisions and can decide where they want to live and with whom. One should respect the decision of older person whether they accept or reject anything (ACSJS,2016).
Respect for human rights, dignity, right to life and choice are the main characteristics of the nursing profession. Nursing care is not bonded by any differences of age, colour, culture, gender or social status. The nurse keeps personal information confident and do not judge anybody on the base of the information they provide. The nursing profession advocates for social justice and equity, and demonstrates compassion, integrity, respectfulness and responsiveness. (ICN – International Council of Nurses, 2012)
As a nurse I can encourage and support old people to speak for themselves, as a nurse I can safeguard old people and can help them to obtain justice if they have been abused by
