We were willing to take all four of these children and our home so they could stay with family, but instead the Department of children and family services in Quincy Illinois decided to place all four of these children in three separate foster homes rather than placed them in a safe loving family environment with people they knew. I was livid I couldn’t believe that in today’s modern time they would rather place three very young impressionable children in three different foster homes separating them rather than placing them in me and my wife home. So not only were these children taken away pulled from their mother’s arms in the middle of the night albeit for good reason, but then they were separated and placed in strangers. Thankfully my niece went to a drug treatment facility and work with DCFS and after 2 ½ long years she has custody of her children back in by the grace of God she’s doing very well she’s clean and sober and her children are happy and healthy and hopefully they were young enough that this experience won’t mark them detrimentally too bad. The reason I’m writing this paper about this particular incident is that in 2016 they amended the children’s and family services act as of January 1, 2016 if there is a willing able and capable safe family member that can take the children that DCFS or law enforcement must remove from home there to replace with family members first. After fully reading the DCFS family services act, I still feel the DCFS was wrong and not placing these children in and me my wife’s custody. But I feel that this amendment to the law where they have to at least notify and try to place the children with family first is a step in the right
