A dream is just something everyone gets automatically, it is a thought in the back of your mind that is somewhat wanted even though it would never come true, but is it? In Of Mice and Men characters like Lennie, Candy, and Curly’s wife prove that a dream is more than just an idea in your head, it is what they live for. It is what helps them get through hard times and keep persevering when nobody else believes in them or listens. These three characters, especially, have it hard but they have dreams in their minds that they have had for a while and stand with them. Even if their dreams are super small or extremely big they still have a substantial impact on the characters and make their life worth living. Before she married Curly somebody had offered her a spot as an actress and she “coulda been in the movies an’ had nice clothes”(160). She lived for this dream because it was out of the ordinary. No one imagined she could do it and she suspected that someone stole her acceptance letter, “I always thought my ol’ lady stole it”(160). When she didn’t get any letters she married Curly. He ruined her life in the way of friendship, “he ain’t a nice fella”(161). Curly doesn’t listen and forbids her to talk to the other men and since Curly is the bosses son the ranch hands are scared to get near him or his family so they don’t get fired. Lennie is mentally behind so he doesn’t fully realize that bad things could happen so he is her last hope but only in the shadows. All Curly’s wife wants is to have friends she could talk to anytime, anywhere and someone to talk to since he won’t listen to her.
