Marine Corps Distrust Analysis

When humanity thinks of the Marine Corps they think of an establishment that prides themselves off of the flashy terms honor, courage, and commitment. This paper argues that there is a noticeable split occurring in the Marine Corps, for the reason that the Marines Corps have noticed an increasing amount of distrust, due to the increased use of technology, resulting in a lack of human interaction.
After closely reviewing Simon Sinek video: “First why and then trust” it became clear and concise that they were a noticeable split taking place in the Marine Corps. This can be seen in the three supporting points: distrust, more technology, and human interaction.
Distrust The term distrust can easily be viewed as an abrasive term however this term fits the current situation the Marine Corps is having. For those who don’t know what the term distrust means: lack trust or confidence: a feeling that someone or something is not honest and cannot be trusted (Merriam-Webster 's, 2016). Marines need to interact to solve problems effectively. I have learned that avoiding interaction just causes more friction over time. As a leader, we have to remain engaged with our Marines because if we all ourselves to avoid one another, productivity, as well as job satisfaction, have a tendency to decrease.
At the point when setting in a leadership position you may see that restricted measure of interactions makes uncertain clash which prompts disturbances in the work process. If not watchful this can make sentiments of despondency, disappointment and discouragement bringing about poor work connections, forceful conduct and now and again savagery in the working environment.     The two greatest weaknesses of the book are a lack of emphasis or attention applied to the responsibilities of senior leaders as well as the “real-estate” of the book applied towards Close Quarters Defense (CQD), the Navy’s hand-to-hand combat training. While Couch utilizes his example of CQD as a method the Navy employs to teach discipline and ethics, he devotes 10 out of 113 pages of his book to it. Instead, I believe the book could have been further strengthened by commentary on the failures existent within the mid and upper-tier leadership ranks within the military; specifically, toxic command climates and unethical behavior albeit non-tactical in nature. Nonetheless, Couch’s final chapter provides solutions to improving ethical behavior in a succinct manner.
