As we continue on in advances with technology, our schools should be providing classes that will keep our nation’s students up to date. “Our civilization is experiencing unprecedented changes across many realms, largely due to the rapid advancement of information technology. The ability to code and understand the power of computing is crucial to success in today 's hyper-connected world” (“Leaders And Trend-setters All Agree on One Thing”). Ex Vice President Al Gore also agrees that having the ability to understand the technology we use daily is vital to the success of our ongoing students. Jobs in the computer science field are expanding exponentially; consequently, people who possess the education and skill of coding are in high demand. However, in the United States approximately one in four of schools do not offer these coding classes. As a result, there are many programs attempting to get kids interested in coding such as, Code.org and the Hour of Code initiatives. While we live in a technologically advanced world, our schools should be running at the same pace to teach our kids how modern technology works. Students need to be exposed to the required technical skills to create their own computer applications. Furthermore, there continues to be a deficit of industrial technology, or IT, because students are not being exposed to computer science at school (Sterling). Putting an emphasis on teaching programming classes, aims at the lack of this skill set in the workforce. “…As career paths go, it 's one of the most productive for high-growth, high-paying job” (Busteed). Jobs in the computer science field are expanding rapidly, and nearly all of them are high-paying; however, there is a major shortage of people who have the coding skills necessary to fill the openings. “We want students thinking about big ideas and problem solving, not just writing programs" (Gow). Implementing coding classes isn’t for the sole purpose of creating programs; moreover, coding also teaches problem solving, critical thinking and algorithmic thinking. “Computer science education can help all students to think logically, critically and creatively” (Busteed).
