My English Competency

Communication competence has become a point of focus in higher level education in the previous decades as educational policy makers and calls for having stressed a “back to basics” mentality. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively is included as a major undergraduate study goal along with other primary key skills like writing, critical thinking, and problem-solving. There are some ways that I have improved my English competency spanning the period of the semester. I likely have heard professors use the term communication competence, but I have learned more about it in this semester through the several skills I have gained, I have seen how communication capability has benefited me in many aspects of my life. The cognitive elements of competence included knowing how I do things and understanding why things are done the way they are. I have learned this through the poem I submitted and the film analysis. I also developed the communication competence by observing and evaluating the actions of other writings. I also gained Communication expertise through instruction from the professor. For example, through the formatting styles taught like the MLA style. Since I am currently taking a communication class, I am encouraged to try to observe the communication concepts I am learning in the communication practices of others and myself. The course has helped bring the ideas to life and also help me evaluate how communication in the real world matches up with communication concepts. As I build a repertoire of communication knowledge based on my experiential and classroom knowledge, I will also be developing behavioral competence from that and the essays I have done so far. First, I challenged myself to see the value in the study of communication, applied the concepts I have learned in the semester and found ways to make the skills help me achieve my goals. Second, I commit to using the knowledge I gained in this semester to improve my communication and the communication of those around me. Becoming a higher self-monitor, which means I start to notice my communication more. Moreover, through better organization of my work, and through better understanding, I have been able to improve the technical component of my written and spoken English. Further, I have been able to grow and develop my English skills throughout the semester, and I am very thankful that I have had the chance to improve in these areas. I plan to continue to develop in these areas moving forward. Another way I have learned to progress toward communication competence is becoming a more mindful communicator. A competence communicator always and quickly processes information is keen to communication skills and different levels of communication, and can cope with the essay in communication situations. Whether or not I achieve my day-to-day communication goals depends on my communication competence. Various communication behaviors can signal that I am communicating
