Though most upcoming students would love to go to college to pursue their career but with the way that the Louisiana budget is looking, TOPS might not be here next year and if students would like to be go to college they will be in debt. The amount of the tuition for the colleges in Louisiana Tuition is about $9,660 per semester depending on the college, not including room and board or books and a meal card (Yearly Cost). Many students cannot afford tuition, so if they were to pay for college they would be in so much debt that they would not be able to pay it off. The amount of people still paying off their student loans from almost a decade ago. Majority of people that did take out a loan for school are still paying it back even in their 40s (Forbes). The amount of debt that some college students are now facing are increasing with how much the tuition is growing itself. Some people are just do not have enough income to pay and are really relying on TOPS achieve their career. Some of these students do not have any friends in high places to help them in get in college to get these high paying corporate jobs. These students are losing opportunities each second the government takes away TOPS or better yet demolishes the scholarship funds.
In conclusion, the Louisiana budget deficit problem should not allow the government to take away TOPS or change the requirements, because it affects all of the Louisiana’s community. Students would be in debt of they had to pay for colleges with loans, current college students would be in jeopardy of losing their scholarships, corporate job levels will decline and many state universities would suffer from less students and less teachers. The question is why should get punished for something caused by the government’s inability to stay within
