Another concept in the book that is different from our society is the care for the elderly. In The Giver all the elders are treated with respect and well cared for while in our society some elderly are well taken care of while others might be forgotten, lonely, or not taken care of. In the book the elderly live in a place called House of the Old and it is sort of like a nursing home, but has more rules and the workers take a little more care of you.
