At the nurse lead meeting an open discussion occurred with the nurse manager and nurse leads to discuss the increase in CAUTIs on the unit. As a result, the nurse manager felt it would be a positive project to try on the unit to help decrease CAUTIs while a few of the nurse leads did not like the idea. Unfortunately, those few felt it would only add to their workload and did not want the additional responsibility at this time. While their reasoning was it is up to the patients’ individual nurse to advocate for urinary catheter device removal and not their responsibility. The plan to decrease the incidences of CAUTIs on the unit is to increase support to the new nurses with the addition of nurse champions. Overall, the meeting ended positively
