The Importance Of Becoming A Non-Profit Organization

Decent Essays
Ever since I could remember I have always wanted to give back to others around me, so on August 20th 2011 I joined National Charity League. A mother daughter organization dedicated to improving local communities through hands-on volunteerism in the community. I want to take the essential skills; confidence, team building, conflict resolution, and leadership that NCL has taught me and not only apply them to the work I am doing now but also into later adulthood and truly make a difference around me. Becoming a well-rounded and socially aware contributor to society is what NCL is all about. Each Chapter in NCL selects appropriate non-profit organizations to serve in the local area. The Chapter continues to support their philanthropic partners

Since attending Spelman College, I have evolved as a person mentally and socially, especially in my efforts regarding volunteering and the production of social change. Before attending Spelman and joining Lady Buds, a mentoring program for young underprivileged girls, I understood to a degree, how social change impacts people and their communities. However, after being a part of Lady Buds, my understanding of social change vastly increased, specifically how it affects the communities within Atlanta and on a larger scale our society. Upon entering Spelman college, I knew I wanted to be involved with a mentoring group, and while there was a multitude of groups to choose from, I decided on Lady Buds because their mission statement resonated with my goal before entering Spelman College.…

While most people believe that non-profit are doing great public work, these organizations are often contributing to the increase of elitism and capitalist forms through corporate influence. Non-profit industrial complex (NPIC) is as a “set of symbolic relationships that link political and financial technologies of state and owning class control with surveillance over public political ideology, including and especially emergent progressive and leftist social movement” (Smith 8). This simply means that NPIC offers a space where corporations can control and authorize social justice movements through their financial support. It permits public monies to fall in the control of private corporation through foundations. The nonprofit industrial complex…

The non-profit organization ISPIRE founded by Jesse Ramirez and his wife Blanca Trejo is one to my interest due to the reasons that I was involved with the organization. To empower the youth, families, and communities is their main purpose of the organization, but their main focus is getting students enrolled in high school to find and create a pathway after high school yet at the same time to see improvements within themselves. INSPIRE applies all types of services in their practices towards the main goal. When it comes to the service of charity, INSPIRE is a 501 c3 public charity which means people can donate to INSPIRE and their money is tax deductible, it also means the organization is a tax exempt. There are different types of organizations who use the status different.…

By virtue of their missions, non-profits are often held to an even higher standard of ethical performance than for-profit organizations. While the majority of non-profit leaders, both staff and volunteers, are persons of high character, on many occasions can make bad choices simply because they are unaware of the ethical complexities of their actions. Over the years, I've observed several other types of ethical dilemmas in funding for non-profit management. These dilemmas are issues all nonprofit leaders, governing boards, fundraisers and donors need to be aware of because they can happen on any given occasion. Having awareness of the following ethical dilemmas; tainted money, compensation, privacy, honesty and full disclosure, stewardship,…

There are two types of organizations, for-profit and nonprofit, especially in terms of their financial and economic policies. The first main difference between the two is the fact that for-profit companies are generally founded to generate income for entrepreneurs and their employees, while nonprofits are generally founded to serve a humanitarian or environmental need. In term of financial policies, non-profit organizations place all their donations and financial means into their programs, services, research, education etc., in order to help raise awareness to help support their cause. On the other hand, for-profit organizations use their finances toward employees, services, and products. “These companies rely on earned income and credit arrangements…

According to Denhardt and Catlaw (2015), Institutions promote societal values that have been defined and applied with a high degree of citizen involvement and with a high degree of responsiveness to the needs and interests of the citizenry. In contrast, organizations are concerned with how individuals can manage change processes to their own or to corporate advantage. The basis of the difference is that democratic institutions focus on freedom, justice, and equality (18). Non-profit organizations are still differentiated from institutions because they still are able to change processes or their mission according to their own will / the will of the Board of Directors. Whereas the work public institutions are mandated by law and through that mandate they meet the needs and interests of the citizenry.…
