Being raised in a low-income community, I recognize the hardships that children can encounter with academics being one of the last priorities for a child to succeed in. There are many injustices that families go through that affect children’s lives and social workers can help resolve these problems. I am interested in learning strategies to help children cope with issues that affect their school performance, behavior, and socialization. My time at Foothill Family and Cal-Peds has prepared me in working with some school social worker related practices such as: assisting parents in developing positive behavioral interventions, connecting families to accessing and utilizing community resources based on needs and interest, and working with other program staff and community partners to coordinate services for support to children and their family. As a graduate student at CSULB, I hope to learn new strategies to support children and families that empower them to overcome challenges they didn’t believe were possible in order for them to succeed and maximize the family well-being and academic function of
