At the mere age of 17, my mother had to endure more hardships that I have had in my 23 years of life. After having to leave her home country of Mexico, she came to Santa Barbara in search of a better life for herself. When I was older, and my curiosity peaked, I learned her story. Not speaking any English, she was able to find a job and propelled herself to where she is now.
