Jeremy Renner as Staff Sergeant James is like a specialist who knows his bombs inside and out, sometimes better than the makers of the bombs. Although he sometimes seems overly confident, he does his job as best as anyone can do giving the viewer the idea that there is no one better than James. Next in line is Sergeant JT Sanborn played by Anthony Mackie. Sanborn provides cover fire for James as well as provide him with “ears” while James is suited up in his heavy armor. Essentially, without Sanborn, James may as well have been on the front lines all alone and blindfolded. The third man on the team is specialist Owen Eldridge played by Brian Geraghty. Eldridge was not not given the credit he probably deserved while helping James and Sanborn. Although little was noted, Eldridge did have a few moments where he saved the day. The team of three were able to accomplish almost all tasks they were assigned perfectly. Bigelow has directed many other successful war time stories like,”Zero Dark Thirty” and “Point Break.” And has been nominated for multiple prestigious film awards throughout her career. Journalist and writer Mark Boal was placed in Iraq in 2004 among other bomb squads which was how he came to the idea of “The Hurt Locker.” Like Bigelow, Boal has had a very successful career in the film industry by being nominated for multiple film awards he has taken part in. Both Bigelow and Boal received two Academy Awards for “The Hurt Locker.” One being for ‘Best Director’ going to Bigelow, and the other being for ‘Best Original Screenplay Writer’ that was awarded to Boal.
