In the first movie of the Hunger games series, there are just two types of social classes which is the rich (Capitol) and the poor (the 12 districts). The differences of social classes in this movie are strongly pointed out. Especially, since the capital holds an annual event called the “Hunger games” in which they (The capitol) pick one girl and boy from each district and have them fight to the death till there is only one survivor in which they win the game. The main female character name is Katniss Everdeen, who can be seen as rugged, hard-headed, a hunter, a provider and sharp. While, the main male character whose name is Peeta Mellark can be seen as kind, gullible, emotional, encouraging, and selfless. But, surprisingly he can also very observant and witty during the movie. Since, they both have personality differences compared to society standards for the male and female personalities the society that is portrayed in the movie can be considered as “gender revolutionaries” as stated in the article written by Sarah Seltzer. Also, stated in the same article “The Hunger Games’ Gender Role Revolution” by Sarah Seltzer “I’ve seen tweets and Facebook posts mocking Peeta’s baking skills—statements that aren’t bad in and of themselves, but show that we have a long way to go in accepting male characters who break the mold”.
