For my journal synthesis, I chose the journal about the the theme of the Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen’s character development, the similarity between Panem and the real world, and the most important gift I have treasured my life.
The first journal that I chose out of the category “an analysis of the novel” was the theme of the Hunger Games. The reason why this piece caught my attention was because it thoroughly explores the theme of values/ethics and relationships that was mentioned during class. In the Hunger Games, a major theme that was mirrored was “family”. In my journal, I discussed how family reflects all the importance, vulnerability, and love in the novel; especially towards the protagonist, Katniss. Our family are the ones we’ve been with our entire lives and no matter how much we resent them, it is impossible to neglect them. For example, Katniss strives to protect her family, as she has the responsibility as the head of the family (pg 27). …show more content…
It is fitting for the category of “personal response to a theme or topic” in the novel. Instead of discussing about how family values are illustrated in the Hunger Games novel, I related this to my personal life. The theme of family is very prevalent in the novel, and I believe that exploring this theme into further categories, such as my own life is an important aspect to further understand the theme. Family can be interpreted differently among people, but towards myself, I value family more than anything. Similar to the events of Katniss in the Hunger Games, I value my family. No, I may not be fighting for my life and hunting for my family in a district, but i do strive to make my family happy and safe. Unlike friends may come and go, family stays with us forever.
