Historical fiction has multiple ways to be described and defined. A definition of historical fiction “Is a work of writing that reconstructs the past” (Licciardi). Historical fiction can also be defined as “Timeshift stories, in which a modern character is turned back, or more rarely, a historical character is transported back to the present, or to a time period not his own” (Dalton). These genres deviated from the boring realities of our world. While I did take an interest in reading, the books that my teachers gave me to read were boring, non-fiction, books with no pictures. The lack of readings I did began to have an effect on the way I wrote. It wasn’t until then my teacher decided to introduce to us book reports. We could read any book we wanted and then write we liked and disliked about the book, however it had to be on a level that was suited for us.…

This “list” varies so much more now that there is a greater variety of different works. Foster describes how many writers like to use fairy tales to influence their plot structure, which ties into earlier in book when he describes how all literature comes from previous works. “Hansel and Gretel” is a very popular fairy tale that almost everyone in the world can appeal to. Many writers incorporate the story line of “Hansel and Gretel” into their works. When writers incorporate fairy tales into their own works of literature, irony is formed.…

Through the methods in which a writer creates a fictional story by using devices such as, Character, plot, and point of view they are able to expand and enhance our ability to understand other human beings; it promotes a deep sense of morality that affects all readers. Subsequently, fiction’s happy endings have distorted the reader’s sense of reality for the betterment of society. As a matter of fact, fiction is more effective at challenging our beliefs than nonfiction, which is made to persuade through argument and evidence. As readers we tend to be reticent, analytical and suspicious of what we read when it comes to nonfiction. But when it comes to a work of fiction, we are quick to indulge our minds into the made up universe, making it effortless…

    1. Campbellesque fiction, named after John Campbell the blending of a good story and correct scientific knowledge, in a way that neither overpowers the other. This type of fiction demonstrates a sort of realism that makes the entirety of the story seem plausible, achievable, and after a decade no longer fictional. According to Isaac Asimov, this was the death of this era of science fiction. Science fiction moved in this direction due to the premium on quality writing placed by John Campbell and his magazine, he set the precedent for strong story writing and scientific backing and demanded it out of other.…

H-EY, Come on OU-T vs. Zoo Sience fiction stories are a great way to stretch out someone’s imagination and think outside the box. “Reading fiction not only develops our imagination and creativity, it gives us the skills to be alone. It gives us the ability to feel empathy for people we’ve never met, living lives we couldn’t possibly experience for ourselves, because the book puts us inside the characters skin.” (Ann Patchett). If you were to read a science fiction book, I would recommend HE-Y, Come on OU-T by Shinichi Hoshi, or Zoo by Edward D. Hoch.…

The short story that I found to be most interesting in the aspects to elements of fiction was called “Babylon Revisited” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The author uses many strong elements that help grant the reader the full picture of the story from many different angles. The unique way F.Scott Fitzgerald is able to shift his dictation and syntax brings the reader to morally question things going on in their own life, producing provocative ideas and new ways of thinking after reading the story. The story takes place in early 1930’s during The Great Depression in Paris France.…

One of the biggest film sagas of all-time came to an epic conclusion over the weekend – as the Jennifer Lawrence-led sequel, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, vigorously dominated the box office. With a thunderous debut of $101 million, Mockingjay – Part 2 put an exclamation point on a masterful (and lucrative) film series. Jennifer Lawrence reprised her role as Katniss Everdeen for what could potentially be the final time (though there are prequels and sequels rumored for the future), but not everything about the hefty debut is worth celebrating. The $101 million domestic return is well below the opening posted by each one of the previous Hunger Games installments, including Mockingjay – Part 1, which post a $121.8 million opening…

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire follows Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mallark succeeding their victory in the 74th annual Hunger Games. The two must now begin a Victor’s tour, travelling to each district expressing their gratitude and apology for those lost in the games. Although Katniss secretly hopes to spike a rebellion against the Capitol, President Snow initiates a 75th Hunger Games in which Katniss and Peeta are involuntarily entered. This film in particular showcases a variety of developmental themes of behaviour, being one of the many reasons I chose it for this analysis. The film depicts many theories of development that, from a young age, can entirely alter a person’s well being, whether it be positive or negative.…

Science fiction is a genre of writing in which the author attempts to explain imagined events that may occur in the past, present or the future. These events are typically not possible in the time that the story is written, but are made to seem possible using scientific innovations. Science fiction often includes aliens, space travel, and advanced technologies that allow the introduction of unique characters, settings, and conflicts to the story. For example, a piece of science fiction is the movie, ET. ET falls under the category of science fiction because there is an alien that travels to Earth.…

What are stories? This question is difficult to answer because there are many different directions that one could go with it.
