1) This passage is from the novel In the Heart of The Country by Coetzee. Throughout the entire novel the main character is imagining that she has killed her father because of the many things he has put her through, things that a father should not put his daughter through. The main characters father is an angry man who ends up taking his anger out on her. The father also sends mixed signals to the daughter about what she is, she is confused whether she is his wife, maid, or daughter. Even though she shouldn’t be confused on what she is to her father. The way the father treats his daughter is not how a father should really treat his daughter, he treats her more like a wife that is expected to keep up the house cater to his every need and want.
