In the Odyssey and the Yellow Wallpaper, both Odysseus and Jane go through the hero's quest journey facing obstacles which teaches them to be conquers.
Hero's go through a cycle called the Hero Quest. The Hero Quest is the adventure of the hero, meaning everything the hero goes through to conquer a challenge or goal or just to reach a certain place. The Hero Quest has twelve total stages. It demonstrates to them that there's something different accessible outside of the Everyday World. The Call can come in numerous appearances. In the Odyssey Odysseus is called to Action. His call to Action is he sets out for a battle at Troy. The Odyssey deals with the hero quest by this call to action. This shows that he is the hero and he will choose if he wants to go for the adventure or refuse the adventure.
In the Yellow Wallpaper Jane is called to Action. Her call to Action is finally realizing the wallpapers true self. Jane starts to notice the female figure trapped behind the bar-like-pattern of the wallpaper. "I didn't realize for a long time what the thing was that showed behind, that dim sub-pattern, but now I am quite sure it is a woman." (Gilman 6) This shows that Jane can either face the challenge or refuse to do the challenge.

Jane has changed a lot after coming back. ""What is the matter?" he cried. "For God's sake, what are you doing!" I kept on creeping just the same, but I looked at him over my shoulder. "I've got out at last," said I, "despite you and Jane. And I've pulled off most of the paper, so you can't put me back!" (Gilman 9) This shows that Jane lost her true self in the wallpaper. In the end of it all Jane came back a new different person. She didn’t come back in a good way, but in a bad way.
At the end of the Hero Quest there is the reward. The reward is the satisfaction of completing those task or challenges. Your reward shows you that hard work pays off no matter what the task or challenge is at
