Labrador retrievers are proven to be America’s favorite breed of dogs. John Grogan grew up in Florida with labradors as pets, who they treated as family. He fell in love instantly with labs and felt the need to have one when he was grown up and on his own. When he crossed paths Jenny, now his wife, he found out that she adored four legged friends just as much as him--which was a perfect fit in their marriage and family. Jenny was extremely hormonal and got upset very easily during her second pregnancy. “‘Get him out of here and keep him out of here,’ she said in an unsettling monotone” (Grogan 138). Even though Jenny loved Marley like a kid, she could not handle him any longer. During Jenny’s pregnancy, she had a very short temper. She didn’t appreciate the “Marley mambo,” as John Grogan calls it, where Marley wiggles his whole body when he has something he is not supposed to and knocks everything over, without even realizing it. One day, Jenny got tired of Marley getting into things and knocking things over and went off. She began yelling about how she wanted Marley out of the house because he was too destructive. “Marley quickly grew into a barreling, 97-pound steamroller of a Labrador Retriever, a dog like no other. He crashed through screen doors, gouged into drywall, flung drool on guests, stole women’s undergarments, and ate nearly everything he could get his mouth around, including couches and fine jewelry” (Grogan 97). Marley was extremely destructive and it was becoming hard to keep up with all of the messes from the kids and the dog. With everything Marley inhaled, most things that were not typically “dog friendly,” The Grogan family learned to keep things off the floor and to accept their oddball of a
