The Great Depression was a terrible time for all Americans. The stock market crashed, people lost their jobs and no one had money. Some may think due to no jobs or money that American citizens could not dress like they used to in the twenties. That was a lie. American men and women looked just as stylish in the thirties as in the twenties, just with a little twist. The men's ideal body changed in the nineteen thirties. The ideal body for a man was very athletic looking. If a man wanted a job, they would work out to look bigger and stronger so that job would hire them. Most jobs during The Great Depression required a great amount of strength (Vintage Dancer). The ideal look during the summer for men was a short-sleeved shirt that was a button down. Most summer shirts were tan colored. Winter shirts were dark blues . Each button down shirt had four pockets, unlike our one pocketed shirts today. Every man wore sweaters during the winter. It was typically the gift from the wife for Christmas (Vintage Dancer). Men’s pants were typically high-waisted. Wide belts were worn with the high-waisted pants. That was the general style for men. Some added a fancy twist to it, some added a little poor twist to it
