Junior year was a formidable foe. My course load was more rigorous than it had ever been. I had to stay up to ungodly hours every night to finish all my assigned homework and responsibilities. Although my strong suits lie in the liberal arts, I am still proficient in math. My junior year math grades were not reflective of that. Before last year, I had never ever received below a B on any progress report or report card. I remember being absolutely horrified whenever I’d check my grade. The most frustrating aspect of it all was that I understood the concepts. I could answer my teacher’s questions in class and follow along easily. Yet when it came time to take tests and quizzes, I could not focus long enough to do well because of how mentally exhausted I was. My saving grace was that I was meticulous about completing every homework assignment. After the first few weeks of barely scraping by, I realized I had to divert my attention from other areas in my life. I ended up choosing not to participate in my schools musical, an event I looked forward to every year. I started spending many long grueling hours after school with my math teacher remediating my tests and going over my mistakes. I managed to score a B+ on my mid-year and final exams. Eventually, I brought my final math grade up to a C+. A grade that would’ve once mortified me brought me a strong sense of accomplishment and
