The Global Separation Of Antarctica's Global Circulation

Decent Essays
This global circulation is propelled by the sinking of cold, salty - and therefore dense - ocean waters.
The conveyor belt move hot and cold water around the globe. It starts in the Norwegian Sea where warms after from the Gulf Stream heats the atmosphere in the cold Northern latitudes.
The loss of heat to the atmosphere makes the water cooler and harder, causing it to sink to the bottom of the ocean. As more warm water moves north, the cooler water sinks and moves south to make room for the incoming warm water. This cold warm flows south of the equator all the way down to Antarctica. Eventually the cold bottom waters return to the surface through mixing and wind-driven upwelling, continuing the conveyer belt that encircles the globe.

Missoula Flood’s Course and Cause 4.) When ice covered almost all of North America, known as the ice age, water began to build up against a 2,500ft ice dam. Soon, when the water presure was at it’s highest, at 2,000ft in dept, the ice broke. This resulted in a catastrphic flood he size of Lake Erie and Onterio combined! The water swept over Eastern Washington moving from 30 to 50 mph.…

There are leaders and followers in this world the leaders go and do different things than other people. But followers do the things that leaders do, but not as well. Leaders lead and show how they can do thing without anyone’s help, I also call that an MVP.we would not be able to live without leaders in this world. In a book I read Surviving Antarctica, there are five teens that are traveling to the South Pole, “like scott and his men” to risk their lives to get MVP, when you get MVP you get $90,000 but either way you get $10,000 if you live. Robert deserves MVP because he leaded most of the way to the South Pole, and much more.…

This quote states that military dictatorship is born by force and not democracy. This concept is present in both books were the government is dangerously powerful and uses any means necessary to scare its own people in doing what they want them to do. Writers of dystopian novels often write stories set in the future to warn us about the potential hazards of the choices we are making TODAY. The novels, Surviving Antarctica, and Legend both depict a future in which government has become dangerously powerful. If we look closely at governments around the world today, we can see that many share the same traits as the ones described in these novels.…

Australia was once part of Antarctica and slowly made its journey towards north, I am going to focus on the landscape history of Australia after its separation from Antarctica starting with the Permian period. At this time Australia was still located near South Pole and slowly moving north, during this period Australia was covered by ice, regions in Australia began to wear off forming sedimentary basins on land. By the time it was Cretaceous period Australia was a low and quite flat continent which had caused the sea level to rise to a shallow depth and divide it into 3 separate land masses, by the time it was Paleogene and Neogene periods Eastern Australia had uplifted which had caused the separation of the rivers which flowed inside Australia…

In the article “Hot Spots in a Freezing Ocean Offer lessons in Climate Change” talks about how climate change can affect the animals in Antarctica. Gail V. Ashton, a marine ecologist, and his colleagues predicted that in 50 years the Southern ocean will increase temperatures by 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit and in a 100 years the ocean will gain 3.6 degree Fahrenheit. In June 2015, Ashton started an experiment to determine what will happen to the aquatic animals if we heated the ocean. First, Ashton’s team was able to place three panels underwater, on the coast of Antarctica. Each panel was able to increase the temperature of the water by 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit.…

This transportation of water and exchanged energy converts from one state to another driving the climate and weather system. This is the largest chemical flux on the planet It does not look like there is a starting point for this cycle. Water stores in lakes and the ocean, transpires into the air creating condensation, precipitation back onto the planet's surface creating runoff, running into the ground creating ground water, and eventually making its way back to lakes and the ocean. This terrestrial system is continuous supporting life on the planet.…

Tide gauge readings, core samples, and satellite measurements tell us that over the past 100 years, the global sea level has risen about 4 to 8 inches. The yearly rate over the past couple decades is twice than the average speed of the past 8- years. Burning fossil fuels and other environmentally harming activities over the past century has caused temperatures to rise. During the summer, glaciers melt significantly less than previous years and during winter, less snow falls, causing sea levels to rise. Mountain glaciers form in high mountain areas.…

Global warming expands, the rate at which seawater vanishes into the air and the measure of water vapor the atmosphere contains when completely immersed. As the amount of water in the air increases, this causes more precipitation from all tempests and expands flooding hazard. The expansion in flooding risk because of outrageous precipitation is drastically shown by the 1000 year-precipitation dropped by Tropical storm Harvey. Inland urban communities near large rivers and the ocean in the US now encounter more flooding and this happening due to climate change.…

18B. Describe two different processes (connected to different mechanisms) that cause down- and upwelling. Upwelling and Downwelling refers to the upwards and downwards movment of water molecules in the ocean system. Downwelling happens when near-surface water sinks and upwelling is the subsurface waters rising. Downwelling occurs when the water at the surface of the ocean becomes denser than the water below it, this dense water then sinks. Water becomes dense when it becomes saltier or colder as a result of freezing or moving to colder regions.…

Differential heating occurs when the earth leans and rotates around the sun that heats the globe year long. Because of so many changes of solar radiation, lower latitudes have more energy than the higher latitudes from the sun. Some locations on the same line of latitude will have different weather depending on how close or far they are to the oceans. Also lakes and rivers reduce the heat temperature because of the large amount of water they hold. When the atmosphere heats up it creates pressure, and different pressures create wind or breeze.…

Basically here we will be looking on how the axis changes its position, from perihelion to aphelion around the sun. One cycle of this process takes about 23,000 years to be completed, this shows that this movement of the axis is very slow and the development that a precession has over short-wave radiation is very small but it still has a huge impact at seasonal changes and one of the main reasons why the incoming solar radiation is not evenly distributed between the equator and the poles. The equator will receive the direct sunlight and experience a higher temperature and at the poles is the opposite, the sun strikes there at an angle and the solar radiation is low resulting in decreased temperature one of the main reason they experience long nights with short days. The ability of the earth to move from one place to another depend on this factor (precession) and also the amount of the insolation reaching the earth depend on the precession. (Loutre, 2004:5).…
