Slavery is my theme because in a lot of ways they are slaves to the community even though they don’t. My first piece of evidence is that everyone’s life is preplanned meaning that the Committee of Elders already has everything planned in there life. I found this in chapter 6, some examples are the 1-12’s ceremonies. In these ceremonies the kids are given certain things and certain things are taken away, also during the 12’s ceremony they are assigned a job that was chosen for them. Page 51 Lily says “ I’m glad I only have to wear hair ribbons for one more year…….Next year get my bicycle, too” Lily gets her bike and hair ribbons taken
