The Geography of Ancient Rome:
Ancient Rome’s development of civilization was affected by geography. Rome began with the downfall of the foreign kings in 509 B.C. , but Romans like to say that the history of their city is from 753 B.C. Ancient Rome is located in Italy, Europe, and is near the Mediterranean Sea. The first settlers of Rome were the Latins. The Latins came from a region surrounding Rome. They chose Rome as a spot for its mild climate, good farmland, and its tactical location. The Latins and the later settlers built Rome on seven steep hills.
The Roman Republic:
Ancient Rome was ruled by kings for more than 200 years. Rome eventually became a republic and its people started electing representatives. The representatives formed a Senate. This was Rome’s most powerful form of government. Later, after the kings, Julius Caesar became the governor of Rome. Julius Caesar was a general and governor. Soon, after Julius his adopted son became the first emperor. He brought peace and wealth to Rome for 40 years. Rome had made great progress.

They thought only about gaining more power and wealth. This increased the variations between the rich and the poor. As a result to this, the threat of a revolt grew. Reformers tried to alleviate these problems. The reformers wanted to break up the huge estates and wanted to give land to the poor. The wealthy landowners in the Senate felt threatened.
