The movie begins on van Orton’s birthday where van Orton receives very few “Happy Birthday’s” from those that he knows and for those that do try to celebrate with him, he gets angry at them for doing so. There are also several flashbacks of his father committing suicide in front of Nicholas, which bothers him a lot. Van Orton then meets with his younger brother, Conrad, for lunch. Conrad is more carefree than Nicholas and tells Nicholas about Consumer Recreation Services (CRS). Conrad gives high praise for CRS and urges Nicholas to join. Nicholas eventually goes to CRS and follows through with many intrusive tests. The CRS tell Nicholas that they will give him everything that he needs.

This problem is eventually solved at the end of the movie. I do think that the party at the end of the film was complete philological release as once the game was over, van Buren realized how much he appreciates everyone he knows and makes plans to see or call them later. He also thanks everyone for being at his birthday party and has joy in his eyes.
I did like this movie as it made me think throughout the whole film. I thought that Michael Douglas’s acting was great and loved how Nicholas changed as a person throughout the film; he began the film as a serious businessman, then became crazy, and finally was happy in the end.
