Brain cancer, or rather brain tumors, are not all the same. There are four separate classifications for identifying brain tumors. The first is Grade 1, which means the brain has harmless cancer cells, which grow slowly but are not affecting the brain abnormally. The second is Grade 2, which is more dangerous than Grade 1, but only slightly so. The cells in Grade 1 and 2 only look slightly different than the normal brain cells, but it is still possible to identify them. The third type is Grade 3, when the cells are significantly more noticeable and actively growing. The fourth and final classification is Grade 4, with fast growing cancer cells and abnormal looking tissue (Davis). Brain cancer is described in these terms because it rarely spreads to other sections of the brain. The stages simply reflect the severity of the tumor, not the chance of spreading to other important organs.
