TEENAGERS AND SUICIDE BEHAVIOR
In the past two decades, suicide has been a focus of research of psychologists, educators, and others who are interesting in. Suicidal behavior became a public major worldwide. The number of people who killed themselves is increasing. This article is going to explain the rise in youth suicide. People should know and be aware on this phenomenon. According to Jennifer Riedl Cross, the behavior of suicide is considered into four categories: Ideators – thinking about killing themselves, gesturers – make suicidal gestures but not serious efforts to end their lives, attempters – make attempts but fail to end their lives, and completers – complete suicide. There are so many reasons for a person – especially teenagers – decide to kill him/herself. First, giftedness is one of reasons. Giftedness means consistent high performance in a socially valued activity, high ability in reasoning and judgment, or certain percentage of any group is considered gifted/talented (Jennifer Riedl Cross); its behavior especially happens on adolescence. According to the research of The Anika Foundation, a bad background of relationship is a high rate for attempting suicide. Following the result, friend attempt suicide, having been raped, violent behavior and relative attempt suicide are rated at 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th.
