Have you ever thought how important is money for you? This story is recommended for those readers that like misteries and dark stories. It expresses the message of what a lonely and selfish widow dares to do fighting against poverty. The intention that Ursula Curtiss is addressing in “The Forbidden Garden”, book that was released in 1962, is how Mrs. Marrable was able to move against her housekeepers just to get their money to become a wealthy lady as she used to be within the society. This widow, which is the main character, shows what a human being is able to do on behalf of money and because of ambition, her biggest goal was to get as much money as she could because money was her only reason to live.

Marrable´s became a poor widow according to Mr. Bentley, which was her husband´s lawyer. She only got a “rusty dagger” and a stamp collection from her husband. She decided to relocate to Tucson and here is when she planted her first poplar and killed her first victim. A few months after, Mrs. Marrable had a beatiful garden and her biggest ambition was to have her housekeeper´s possessions but, she forgot the detail of get rid of the inscription in Mrs. Tensley´s Bible. Mrs. Marrabale hired several housekeepers that disappeared and the garden was growing and flourishing and Miss Tensley was one of these victims because she had been saving money during a long time. Mrs. Marrable went to a party to met her nephew and his wife and they were keeping an eye on Mrs. Marrable situation. The couple started to think of the fact that Mrs. Marrable was unable to maintain at least one of her housekeepers but they got confused because Mrs. Marrable said that she lost the last one for a drinking problem. While the story is moving on, Harriet shows up, she recently had lost her husband and during this meeting was introduced to Mrs. Marrable, at the same time she met her next housekeeper, Mrs. Dimmock that was going through a similar situation as Mrs. Tinsley, saving money and with no relatives but, while she was looking for a pamphlet, Mrs Marrable did not count on the fact that she could find Mrs. Tinsley´s Bible. The narrator seems to be a third person. This book has so many interesting details that a movie was inspired by this book, the name of the movie changed a little bit, this film was named “Whatever happened to aunt alice”, this movie enclosed basically the whole story and is really attached to the original story. In a certain way, this story shows the feeling between Mrs. Dimmock and Miss Tensley as a lesbian relation which is very controversial and probably you need to read the whole story if you want to perceive this sensation. The book is reallly good because it is not a regular story with a predetermined ending, instead the end is totally unexpected and you get a huge surprise when you finish your reading, it is also funny to find out what was really happening in Mrs. Marrable´s
