The average consumption of water at the residential sector is about 9 million acres per year. This is also about ¾ the amount of water that we should use yearly. Some appliances that residential uses are dishwashers, showers, toilets and sinks. There are also other uses in the residential sector such as washers inside a home. In addition to these uses there are also outdoor uses that waste a lot of water. Some of these include watering the lawn and outside or inside plants. These activities are known to be the ones that consume vast amounts of water. If there were a larger cut of water by conserving it the water reduction would be around 8%. If more than one water bucket is used at the time the shower is running that is an indication that too much water is being used. This recycled water can serve many uses. The recycled water can water the plants, clean a car, and also clean dishes. According to a program called Watersense there are being many appliances manufactured that will reduce the cost and amounts of water used. These appliances will consist of washing machines, showers and other technologies. These costs will become more affordable for a lot of families (EPA WaterSense). This program was made to help all citizens reduce their water costs as well as help water reductions needed in this drought.
