What is logos?
Logos means persuasion through the use of facts or logic. Jocasta realizes that Oedipus was her son when she hears the messenger tell Oedipus the events that occurred after his birth that brought him to the King and Queen of Corinth. 4. Is Oedipus a victim of fate or his own actions?
There are compelling arguments on both sides. Oedipus does everything in his power to avoid his fate, but through these actions the prophecy came true. When Oedipus goes to see the Oracle of Delphi, the Oracle avoids answering the question of whether the King and Queen of Corinth are truthfully Oedipus’s biological parents and instead tells him the prophecy that he will murder his father and marry his mother. Though Oedipus never receives a direct answer to his question, he doesn’t investigate the matter any further, believing that the King and Queen are his parent. He chooses to flee Corinth, sealing his fate.
