The book The Feminine Mystique in Chapter 13, “The Forfeited Self” is describing self-destruction of American housewives. Housewives who live according to the feminine mystique do not have a personal purpose in life to evoke their full abilities therefore they can not grow to self-realization. Then without a purpose, they lose a sense of who they are and also to be able see into their future. Women have never been able to realize their human potential in life until now, as in the film “Aliens,” where the women rule. Over the years the focus has been on the man’s power and self-realization, living a happy, self accepting, healthy life, without guilt, and fulfilling himself and becoming the best …show more content…
High dominance is having good self-confidence, self assurance, superiority, high evaluation of the self, lack of being shy, timidity, self-consciousness or embarrassment. Then the low dominance being the complete opposite but will describe herself as self confident in her home, cooking, sewing or being a mother. Low dominant women usually do not break the rules that they have been taught to do by their parents, teachers or their religious background. Comparing this to the film Alien, it shows that Ripley in the movie is a high dominance woman, very masculine and can use a gun, drive a machine and fight like a man. Also, the other woman in the film showed the same masculine characteristics, so she was asked by another man in the film if she was a man. They were both working women in the marine core taking over, making all the decisions and ruling the men in the movie. This proves that women are capable of doing any duty or task that she has her mind set to do. Much has changed from the 1920’s when women were marrying young and having babies as teens. I disagree with him but as in the movie, Alien, this might be how Ripley felt. She missed out on her daughters life because she was a working mother and a career woman. She went back to fight and have a relationship with Newt because she felt guilty having left her own daughter while she was working. Her motivation was to show that she is capable of being a mom and working in the in the job force. I feel in the year 2015, woman can juggle almost anything thrown at them. It’s being able to have the balance of life that is the challenge nowadays. Women can be a million times stronger than men, being able to take on more tasks then ever such as being a mom, working, cooking and running errands. I feel there is no such thing as just being a so called “housewife” anymore in today’s society. Women have now been able to grow to their self-realization and have more then just a purpose in
