As defined in the textbook status is pertaining to a social position that a person holds in society. The status a person holds in society helps shape how they are perceived as an individual within society and how they view themselves through the eyes of others. In the article, Essena is struggling with the status she has given herself based on her experience with social media. Essena’s status in society was that of her being on a higher level than others as a result of looking like perfection through her photos and posts on social media for the whole world to view. Throughout her years on social media Essena was perceived to be better than everyone else in many aspects. She was viewed by many different woman as being prettier as well as skinnier than the average person in a society. Within society, status can be considered a very important aspect to an individual. An individual’s true status may not be accurately represented through the use of social media pages. Posting pictures that show only ones good side and represents no flaws suggests that the individual contains no flaws which is simply just not true. Within every individual there is always flaws, it is what makes us human. In the beginning, social media became a tool for communication between individuals throughout the world, recently it has become a place for a competition of who can get the most likes, or who can become the most recognized through social media profiles. In the article, it connects the concept that social media does not represent what the reality of individuals lives really is. Social media creates a desire to become something that may not be a complete representation of one’s true self. As stated in the article, many fans of well-known bloggers, as well as social media celebrities have not come to the realization that when they view posts from these so called celebrities, they are witnessing advertising constantly. Celebrities are endorsed through the offering of free products from companies as well as sponsor payments, through this, companies get advertised by the celebrities through the popular social media profiles. Social media has also raised problems pertaining to what is considered a societal social norm throughout society today. Many people view social media and see
